Hi,
maybe i 've written this in the past but throw away all unecessary stuff in Alb3D.
Remove the internal raytracer and focus on strong modelling/texturing capabilities. Add UV-unwrapping, add booleans, improve/extend 3d-export and then you have a robust modelling tool. Then and only then you could focus on export to ONE external renderer and support all features of this renderer.
Do not get me wrong. I like Albatross 3D because of it's already good modelling capabilities but i think that the internal raytracer will never catch up with actual rendering engines. It looks like time wasting for me.
Now you can kick me in the nuts.

Hi sk2k,
long time no heard...
The UV unwrapping is in my todo list. But before, I need to change the way Albatross3D manages uv coords, I have in mind something like the color, uv, normal maps of lightwave.
Boolean is a lot more complicated. Will try latter.
Export/import is important, but done entirely by scripts, so it can be extended or improved by anybody.

The internal raytracer is not that bad. I do not intend to go much further. I want something simple, flexible and quick. It is already that. I will add anisotropic material and then scripted material and node tree material. With the node compositer it will be a good and flexible rendering engine.
But in a sense, you are right. I don't want to go to deep in the rendering capabilities. Like planed, but not much. If a user wants more, the scripting possibilities are far enough to adapt Alabatross3D to any rendering engine.
But if you have idea to improve Alabatross3D, in any area (like modeling tools), let me know...
Won't kick at all, you may be the last user...

I have in mind a tool that mixes the brush (sculpt) tool and the knife tool. But I need to find out to mix them in a user friendly way....

Hmm, can't think off how this would work. I would prefer seperate tools, the knife tool for rough work and the sculpt tool for fine work.
